Coronavirus: Anambra State Govt Urges Citizens to Restrict Trips to China

Mr C. Don Adinuba, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Anambra State, made made a statement about the coronavirus epidemic in China, saying the state government had warned its citizens about traveling to the city of Wuhan, China because of the infectious disease.

Mr Adinuba in the statement released to journalists st on Wednesday in Awka said:

The coronavirus may have started in Wuhan, China, but this is a clear and current threat to the international community, including the state of Anambra.

The commissioner further said that the Anambra State governmentt for this reason has decided to urge its people, who happen to be the most traveled Nigerians, if not Africans to restrict travel trips to China.

He advise all Ndi Anambra not to travel to Wuhan, China, despite their allure as an industrial and transportation center.

Every entrepreneur or traveler in Anambra who has been in Wuhan in central China in the past three weeks is advised to use the State’s remedial solutions and report them to the Ministry of Health in Awka.

The Anambra State’s screening facilities are available free to anyone who feels threatened by this new highly contagious disease.

The Anambra State Government notes that it has been confirmed that coronavirus infection has spread to 16 countries in Asia, North America and Asia. It may as well have reached Ivory Coast.

In view of this development, the government advised its citizens who travel abroad to comply with high hygiene standards and, among other things, to wash their hands regularly and must maintain minimal physical contact with the people they meet.

The security and comfort of every Anambra at home and abroad remains on the priority list of the administration of Governor Willie Obiano.

Coronavirus is a common type of virus that causes infections in the nose, sinuses, or upper throat. Most coronaviruses are mild, but some are serious. Some only affect animals, while others can also affect humans. Most people become infected with human coronavirus at certain point in their lives. This usually causes mild to moderate upper respiratory infections, such as colds. But they can also cause more serious illnesses such as bronchitis and pneumonia.

There are currently no vaccines available to protect you against the coronavirus infections. You may be able to reduce your risk of infection by:

  • washing your hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • avoiding touching your mouth, nose, or eyes with unwashed hands
  • avoiding close contact with sick people.
